These raw dried beans are derived from the cacao plant. Fresh cacao is the fruit is used to make chocolate and cocoa! The cacao beans are the seeds of the cacao pod and are fairly soft with a pale lavender to dark brownish-purple color. The flavor of the beans vary according to growing conditions. Raw cacao is thought to be one of the highest naturally occurring sources of antioxidants and magnesium.
Store in a sealed container in a dark, dry, cool place.
Use these beans to make cacao nibs or into your own chocolate! Pulse in a food processor or blender. To make your own cocoa, grind the beans into a powder. Add the cacao nibs over smoothie bowls, yogurt, desserts, cereal, and oatmeal. Use the cocoa in dessert and baked good recipes, or drink as hot cocoa.
